Frequently Asked Questions

BrightPath Youth Mentoring is completely FREE for all youth participants. Our program is funded through grants, donations, and community partnerships to ensure every young person has access regardless of financial circumstances.
Program lengths vary from 4-12 months depending on which program you choose. We believe consistency is key, so we ask both mentors and mentees to commit to regular meetings for the full duration. Most relationships continue beyond the formal program period.
Sessions can occur in various approved locations including community centers, libraries, schools, or virtual meetings. Safety is our top priority, so all in-person meetings follow strict safety protocols and occur in public, supervised spaces.
While we carefully match mentors and mentees, we understand that sometimes adjustments are needed. We have a re-matching process and our staff provides ongoing support to ensure every relationship is positive and productive.
Absolutely! Many of our mentors have full-time jobs. We offer flexible scheduling including evening and weekend options. The typical commitment is 2-4 hours per week, which can often be broken into smaller increments.
All mentors complete our comprehensive 12-hour training program covering youth development, communication skills, boundary setting, cultural competency, and more. We also provide ongoing workshops and support throughout your mentoring journey.
We work with families to address transportation needs on a case-by-case basis. Many sessions can occur at convenient neighborhood locations or online. For special events, we often arrange group transportation.
Safety is paramount. All mentors undergo comprehensive background checks, complete safety training, and are supervised by our staff. We have strict protocols for meetings, communication, and reporting. Parents/guardians are involved every step of the way.
